Rayon flocking fiber is a semi-synthetic, short-cut material used in special effects makeup to realistically mimic human blood vessels, capillaries, and skin undertones within translucent prosthetics. Made from regenerated cellulose, these tiny, hair-like fibers are incredibly fine, lightweight, and specifically chosen for their ability to disperse evenly without clumping.

Safety Warning

Flocking fibers pose a severe respiratory and eye irritation hazard. Because these microscopic fibers are extremely lightweight, they easily become airborne and can be inhaled deep into the lungs or enter the eyes, causing respiratory irritation or corneal scratches over time. Always work in a well-ventilated area away from fans or drafts.

Required PPE Guidelines

• Respiratory Protection: Wear a tight-fitting N95 or P100 particulate respirator to help prevent inhaling microscopic airborne fibers.
• Eye Protection: Wear sealed safety goggles rather than standard glasses to help block floating fibers from entering around the sides of the eyes.
• Skin Protection: Wear disposable nitrile gloves and a long-sleeved shirt to help prevent fibers from sticking to skin oils or open cuts.
• Clothing Cover: Wear a smooth plastic or vinyl apron because flocking fibers can become embedded in woven fabrics such as cotton or wool.
